TACT was formed by a group of English-speaking immigrants in the 1950s who first met in each others homes to read plays. It was founded by the late Moshe Posner, English Teacher and Textbook Author, and immigrant from London. Today, TACT is now 50 years in Tel Aviv, and is the oldest established and most active of the English-Speaking community theatres in Israel. In the 1960s, the group re-formed as the ZOA (Zionist Organization of America) House Drama Circle, producing many animated play readings and then graduating to fully staged plays and musicals.
In 1987, the Group formalized under the auspices of the Tel Aviv Municipality as a non-profit organization, officially formed as the Tel Aviv Community Theatre (TACT) and taking up its new residence at Beit Yad Labanim.
Our members comprise of professionals, semi-professionals, and amateurs - all volunteers. Ages of our participants are from 7 years old to 90 plus! Whole families participate.
TACTs motto is "For the Community - With the Community", and we are very proud that we provide great entertainment at very affordable prices to the English-speaking audiences and to Israelis who wish to "brush up" their English. |
